HW Mr. Padilla 11.4.16

Homework: dear parents/guardians, please assist your child with today’s homework.

Option 3:  Read the passage and answer the questions that follow. Write Complete sentences. Use examples from the text to support your responses/points.

* We're poorer than the Socs and the middle class. I reckon we're wilder, too. Not like the Socs, who jump greasers and wreck houses and throw beer blasts for kicks, and get editorials in the paper for being a public disgrace one day and an asset to society the next. Greasers are almost like hoods; we steal things and drive old souped-up cars and hold up gas stations and have a gang fight once in a while. I don't mean I do things like that. Darry would kill me if I got into trouble with the police…So Soda and I stay out of trouble as much as we can, and we're careful not to get caught when we can't. I only mean that most greasers do things like that, just like we wear our hair long and dress in blue jeans and T-shirts, or leave our shirttails out and wear leather jackets and tennis shoes or boots. I'm not saying that either Socs or greasers are better; that's just the way things are.

1.       What’s the first difference between Socs and greasers that Ponyboy points out?
2.       How does Ponyboy describe the Socs’ behavior?
3.       Based on the 3rd second sentence, are the Socs getting special treatment? Show the evidence to prove your point.
4.       How are the greasers different to the Socs? How is Ponyboy different to other greasers? Why?

Option 2: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow. Write Complete sentences. Use examples from the text to support your responses/points.

We're poorer than the Socs and the middle class…wilder, too. Not like the Socs, who jump greasers and wreck houses and throw beer blasts for kicks, and get … in the paper for being a public disgrace one day and an asset to society the next. Greasers are almost like hoods; we steal things and drive old souped-up cars and hold up gas stations and have a gang fight once in a while. I don't mean I do things like that… Soda and I stay out of trouble as much as we can, and we're careful not to get caught when we can't. I'm not saying that either Socs or greasers are better; that's just the way things are.

1.      How do the Socs behave?
2.      What happens when the Socs get into trouble?
3.      How do the greasers behave?
4.      What makes Ponyboy and Sodapop different than other greasers?
5.      How do Greasers like to dress?

Option 1: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow. Write Complete sentences. Use examples from the text to support your responses/points.

Ponyboy compares greasers and Socs:
We're poorer than the Socs and the middle class…wilder, too.
1. Who are better off than the Greasers?
We’re not like the Socs, who jump greasers and wreck houses… Greasers are almost like hoods; we steal things…
2. What do the Socs like to do?
3. What are the Greasers like and do?
… Soda and I stay out of trouble as much as we can, and we're careful not to get caught when we can't.
4. What do Soda and Ponyboy do?
