HW Mr. Padilla 5-4-16

Homework: parents/guardians, please assist your child with today’s homework.

Option 1:

“Prim!” I scream. I reach her just as she is about to mount the steps.  With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me.  “I volunteer! I volunteer as tribute!”

1.    How does Katniss protect Prim at the Reaping?

A shift has occurred since I stepped up to take Prim’s place, and now it seems I have become someone precious. The crow touches the three middle fingers of their left hand to their lips and holds it out to me.  It is an old gesture.  It means thanks, it means admiration, it means good-bye to someone you love.

2.    Why did Katniss become someone precious?

3.       What gesture does the crowd give Katniss?

4. What does the gesture mean?

Option 2:

“Prim!” I scream. I reach her just as she is about to mount the steps.  With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me.  “I volunteer! I volunteer…!”
