Option 3: Choose two of these themes to compare 2 accounts of the Holocaust: Death Survival Pain  Heroism Fear Hate.  (name the 2 accounts). You may use Venn diagram.

Today we reviewed the novel we will read and study next month: The Hot Zone. We also discussed some ways that the Hot Zone and Night are similar.  Choose one option below:
Option 1: Draw a new cover for the novel Hot Zone. Make sure your drawing includes details discussed in class. For example, characters, place, the problem.
Option 2: Write a paragraph in which you tell what the Novel The Hot Zone is about. (make sure to include 5W’s)
Option 3: We discussed how the Hot Zone and Night have 3 themes in common: fear, death, and pain. Write a paragraph in which you mention an example for each theme in both novels.

Option 1: Read this passage from NighT and describe in your words what Eliezer is feeling.
I could not believe that human beings were being burned in our times; the world would never tolerate such crimes...

Option 2: Read the passage above: draw a cartoon scene that shows people having this conversation. Think of the graphic novel Mauss.
Option 3: To day we also read a short paragraph from the article Quilt of a Nation. We discussed how America is described as a salad bowl. Explain how we can connect this reading to Night. Hint: Hitler and the German Unification.

1.Option 2: In one paragraph, explain what a scapegoat and common enemy are.  How do you connect today’s lesson to the novel Night. Use examples from today’s reading and lesson.
2.Option 3: Write about an experience where you or someone you know set aside differences to unite against a common enemy.

“Man comes closer to God through the questions he asks Him, he liked to say. ..Man asks and God replies. But we don't understand His replies. We cannot understand them. …The real answers, Eliezer, you will find only within yourself.”
Task: Do you agree with Eliezer’s father, that the answers to questions we do not understand we can only find within ourselves? Explain why or why not.
Option 2: Today we read and discussed what happened to the Jew deportees when they arrived. You read how the gestapo treated them. Pretend your job is to draw for a newspaper and they ask you to draw something for the cover: What would you draw?  What would be the headline?
